First and foremost I must shout out to the ladies that attended: (From the left: Yours truly, Loren (sister), Kristin (sister), Carrie (bff), Jen (bff) and the beautiful bride Janine)
Party Idea 1: Champagne. You can't go wrong with Champagne for a bachelorette party. I gave the bottles a personal touch by adding things like their wedding date 10.14.11, Mr & Mrs. Willis, Janine & Craig etc... Which can double as a keepsake if the bride so wishes.
First I scrubbed off the label of the wine bottles by soaking them in water and scrubbing with a brillo pad. Once dry, I carefully wrote with puff paint (any color) the words that I wanted. I let the puff paint dry and did another coat on top to make it extra "puffy".
WARNING!!! DO NOT TAKE OFF THE METAL PROTECTOR. As you can see above, I took it off, which was a bad idea because shortly after this was taken, it exploded. Thus, I ended up like this:
Did I mention 2 of them popped?
After my little mishap, I took them out for a coat of chalkboard paint (I really love this stuff). For those that didn't pop, I wrapped the cork ( and metal protector ) with masking tape to protect it from paint.
After a couple of coats, this is how they turned out:
TIP: After traveling down to Savannah, they got a little scuffed up which was disappointing. If I were to do this again I would sand the glass a bit to scuff up the surface so the paint has something to stick to.
This seemed like a long post so I'm going to break it up in a series. Keep posted for the second part of this series for more Bachelorette Party Ideas!

ReplyDeleteI am totally doing this for my friend's bachelorette party in February! Great idea! Also, I loved the picture of you drinking the champagne out of the bottle... I may have laughed out loud... :) Great post!
ReplyDeletelove this idea!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I was wondering where to buy the chalkboard paint from? Such a cute idea, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteI bought the chalkboard paint at my local craft/hobby store. I live in North Carolina and it's called A.C. Moore. Surely you'd be able to find it at Hobby Lobby or even a Home Depot. If all else fails you could order online too :)

Wish I would have saw this before I got married! Too cool! :)

ReplyDeleteHey I love this.doing it for a birthday but I can't find puff paint ANYWHERE locally. Where did you get yours?
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteI found the puff paint at my local craft store. Here in NC it's called A.C. Moore or Hobby Lobby. It's found near the paints for clothing. I'm sure an employee could point you in the right direction. Good luck! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi! Love this idea!!
ReplyDeleteBut is there a specific reason you used Blackboard Paint? Could you not use any type of paint?
Just curious.
Thanks.
Linda
@Linda. There is no specific reason I used the Blackboard paint, I really chose it so I could re-use it. I think it would be important to sand/etch the glass before painting so it will stick. You can buy etching creme which would work great! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHolly. You can also use hot glue gun, dries faster and is already thick enough
ReplyDeletegreat work on the bottles! I tried the hot glue gun and it is messy since the hot glue tends to leave extra string marks.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic where you are chugging the popped bottle. Made me laugh out loud. :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to thank you for the great idea! I did 16 bottles for my little sister's bachelorette party and they were an absolute hit! Your great instructions made them an easy, personalized favor which didn't cost lots of money or take lots of time:) Highly recommend!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you could re-use the idea!! :)
